~ Adventists — a sect of Adventists which grew out of
a movement begun by William Miller in the United States in 1831. He preached
that the present world would end about 1843. The Seventh-day Adventists adopted
their name in 1860, and were formally organised from 1863. They observe
Saturday as their Sabbath and insist on temperance and abstinence from alcohol,
tobacco, etc., and a strict adherence to the Scriptures. [BD]
