James White (1849-1885), a one-time army private, who took the name James
Jershom Jezreel. They were also called the "New and Latter House of
Israel" and believed that Christ redeemed only souls, and that the body is
saved by belief in the Law. Their object was to be numbered among the 144,000
(see Rev. 7:4), who, at the Last Judgement, will be endowed with immortal
