Pelagians — heretical followers of the British
monk Pelagius (a Latinised form of his Welsh name Morgan, the sea). They denied the doctrine of original sin, or the
taint of Adam, and maintained that we have power of ourselves to receive or
reject the Gospel. They were opposed by St. Augustine and condemned by Pope
Innocent I in 417 and again by Pope Zosimus in 418. [BD]
