Sandeman {'sxndImqn 3}
Sandemanians — a religious party
expelled from the Church of Scotland under John Glas (1695-1773) for
maintaining that national churches, being "kingdoms of this world"
are unscriptural. He was suspended in 1728 and expelled in 1730. Eventually the
leadership passed to his son-in-law Robert Sandeman, whence the more common
name Sandemanians. They believe in salvation through grace and abstain form all
animal food which has not been drained of blood. Love feasts (agape) are held
and the kiss of charity is enjoined. [BD]
