Socinianism — a form of
Unitarianism which, on the one hand, does not altogether deny the supernatural
character of Christ, but, on the other, goes farther than Arianism which, while
upholding His divinity denies that He is coequal with the Father. So called
from the Italian theologians Laelius Socinus (1525—62) and his nephew Faustus
Socinus who developed these tenets. [BD]
