congregation founded at Bruges in 1839, concerned chiefly eith the education of
youth. It was founded by Theodore James Ryken who took the name Brother Francis
Xavier after St. Francis Xavier
(1506—52), one of the earliest of the Jesuits, celebrated as the "Apostle
of the Indies" and "the Apostle of Japan". [BD]
