Queen Anne's Bounty — a
fund established by Queen Anne in 1704 for the relief of the poorer clergy of
the Church of England. It was created out of the firstfruits (see annates) and
tenths, formerly given to the papacy, which were annexed to the Crown by Henry
VIII. Queen Anne's Bounty was merged with the Ecclesiastical commission in 1948
to form the Church Commissioners. [BD]
